Your last month, in six numbers
Nothing leaves your phone. The maths runs in this page.
How this calculator works
Profit on paper is sales minus costs. Cash you can touch is what is in the till and the bank today. The two are different because customers pay late, suppliers get paid early, and stock sits on the shelf.
Days of cover divides your cash by your daily costs. It tells you how long the business runs if nobody pays you this month. Money stuck with customers is the amount you have earned but cannot spend yet.
A healthy small business usually keeps its customer dues below one month of sales and holds enough cash for a few weeks of costs. The exact numbers depend on your trade, which is why ScoreMyBiz scores seven areas, not one.
Questions people ask
Why is my profit high but my cash low?
Because profit counts sales the moment you make them, while cash arrives only when the customer pays. Stock you bought and money you paid suppliers early also pull cash out before the sales land.
What is a good number of days of cash cover?
Enough to pay a few weeks of costs without new sales. Under one week is risky; a month or more gives room to handle a slow period.
Is this calculator free, and do you keep my numbers?
It is free and runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The ScoreMyBiz app, if you choose to use it, keeps your book private to your account.
How is this different from the Business Health Score?
This page looks at cash only. The score weighs seven areas, including profit margin, working capital, growth and debt, and updates every day from your book.
